Got questions? We have answers to help you get started.
What is the Multi-Combination (MC) licence course?
This comprehensive 1-day course prepares you to safely operate multi-combination vehicles including road trains, B-doubles, triple trailers, and Australia’s most complex freight operations, qualifying you for your official VicRoads Multi-Combination (MC) licence. You’ll learn highly sophisticated articulated vehicle control, advanced hazard management, and exceptional safety standards through theory and hands-on practical training.
What vehicles can I drive with an MC licence?
With an MC licence, you can drive multi-combination vehicles including heavy combination B-double rated vehicles at least 22 metres in length with more than one trailer (with all pertinent documentation and permits), three-axle prime movers with A and B trailers each with bogie axles, road trains, B-triples, and other complex freight vehicles.
Is the MC licence the highest level of heavy vehicle licence?
What's the difference between MC and HC licences?
HC (Heavy Combination) covers prime movers with single semi-trailers over 9 tonnes GVM and B-doubles. MC (Multi-Combination) covers road trains, B-triples, and vehicles with multiple trailers (22+ metres), representing the most complex and demanding heavy vehicle operations in Australia.
What will I learn?
You’ll master highly sophisticated articulated vehicle control, expert traffic and road condition monitoring, vehicle performance in extreme transport environments, advanced hazard management for multi-combinations, exceptional safety standards for road train operations, efficient driving techniques, engine power management, and coupling and uncoupling multiple trailers.
What's the difference between nationally recognised and licence-only training?
Will my VicRoads MC licence be valid outside Victoria?
Victorian driver licences are recognised nationally for driving. If you relocate interstate, you’ll generally need to transfer your licence to the new state within their specified timeframe. If you obtained the nationally recognised training, your Statement of Attainment (TLILIC3018) remains nationally recognised for training and employment pathways.
What career opportunities does this open up?
How long is the licence valid for?
Your VicRoads Multi-Combination licence remains valid as long as you maintain your Victorian Driver’s Licence and meet VicRoads medical and licensing requirements. You’ll need to renew it according to your standard driver’s licence renewal cycle.
